ABOUT
Samantha Davies is a contemporary sculptor whose work merges silk, texture, and light to explore the emotional and energetic layers of human experience. Best known for her sculpted silk artworks on canvas, she now expands her practice into free-standing forms, threadwork, and crystalline textures, inviting the viewer into a quiet, immersive dialogue between movement, material, and memory.
Her process is deeply intuitive, often shaped by the rhythms of nature and the subtle tension between stillness and flow. Rooted in presence and emotional resonance, her work becomes a space of reflection, where light, silk, and silence converge. Each piece invites a sensory pause, offering not just visual impact but a felt experience of balance, depth, and becoming.
Artist Statement
My work explores the space between movement and stillness, where emotion becomes form and form becomes feeling. Working primarily with pure white silk, I create sculptural pieces that move between wall-mounted works and free-standing forms. I allow the fabric to stretch, fold, and surrender according to its own rhythm, responding intuitively to energy, rather than imposing fixed concepts.
Each piece holds a memory, of breath, of silence, of something that is been deeply felt but not always named. The silk behaves like the body in moments of grief, love, or presence, holding, softening, opening. I shape tension, release, and resonance into the surface, so the work becomes not just visual, but visceral.
Water remains a vital influence. Whether near coastlines or moving with the inner tide, I am drawn to its rhythm, depth, and ability to shape without force. This connection lives in the Treading Deep Waters series, a meditation on emotional weightlessness and surrender. Works such as Embrace and Echoes of Release explore intimacy and the quiet presence found in stillness, while Waves of Surrender invites a closer glimpse into the material itself, where texture, detail, and emotion converge in a single gesture.
More recently, my practice has expanded into threadwork, crystalline elements, and free-form silk sculpture, continuing my inquiry into presence, memory, and energetic frequency. These pieces are not made to tell you what to feel. They are invitations to pause, to sense, and to meet whatever lives quietly beneath your own surface.
Through sculpted silk, I offer not just objects, but spaces to feel—spaces where you can return to your body, your breath, and your own quiet truth.
