ABOUT
Jana is a German watercolour and line artist whose work explores themes of female bodies and their connection to nature and the universe. While art has always been a part of her life, it was during the pandemic that she rediscovered her passion and began creating again. A self-taught artist, Jana finds inspiration in conversations with friends and fellow creatives, particularly on themes like womanhood. Her delicate watercolours and intricate line work invite viewers to reflect on the beauty of women and their relationship with the their own bodies. Though early in her career, Jana has already held a solo exhibition in Bonn and participated in shows linked to theatre productions exploring sexuality and womanhood. For her, however, the greatest achievement is the joy and creative freedom her art brings. As she continues to grow, her work evolves alongside her journey.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My art is a celebration of the female form and its connection to nature and the universe. I create watercolour and line art pieces that explore the beauty and diversity of bodies, challenging societal norms and unrealistic ideals. I began creating art because it provides a space where my mind can roam freely, unobscured by constraints. When I paint, I'm not just putting color on paper, I'm reexamining my own views and inviting others to do the same. My inspiration comes from nature, conversations with friends about their bodies and womanhood, as well as the very process of creation itself. Often, I find that trying new techniques leads to unexpected discoveries. Through series like 'Breasts of the Universe', 'Vulva Discoveries' and 'Love Your Labia', I aim to break taboos and create a new perspective on parts of the body that are often hidden or misunderstood. My goal is to foster self-love and acceptance. If my art can make someone reconsider their attitudes towards their own body or bodies in general, I feel I've achieved something meaningful. Ultimately, my artwork is a journey of growth and a call for collective appreciation of our diversity.
